combat baby asks: Travel from Estonia to Russia?

I am planning to travel to Helsinki, then to Tallin & Tartu, then into St. Petersburg & Moscow. This would be about 6 months from now. I've heard some things about the Estonia/Russia boarder that lead to the conclusion that maybe I should plan to travel though Latvia? Also, on the way out I'm heading to Germany, is it best to get the Visa for Belarus or should I go through the Ukraine or Latvia? What kind of prices should I expect for these routes via train? Thank you! Edit: Please don't be so rude. They dont' say "the germany" but they do say "the united states of america." "The Ukraine" is the name of the old region of the soviet union and that is the reason I used it. It is no longer officially used and I used it simply out of habit and I apologize if I offended anyone but I get the feeling from your tone that you weren't aware that "the ukraine" was ever correct. I imagine it's more expensive to travel from Finland - everything there is pricey. The things I've heard about the border of Estonia involve the recent politics between Russia and Estonia and I know that last year the routes were completely closed for a while and last I heard they weren't completely back up.
